Elizabeth R. Byrd, 93, of Dothan, Alabama passed away (graduated) to be with the Lord she loved and served on Thursday November 10th. She finally got her wish to be with her loving husband.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Woody Farrington officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 – 2 pm on Tuesday.

She received her diploma from Central High School in Phenix City, AL. She was married to Dean Henry Byrd in 1941 and was a faithful wife and mother. She was active in girls and women’s missions at Calvary Baptist Church. She was a committed Sunday School Teacher with her husband, Dean, with a special love for young couples. This legacy lives on with their children and grandchildren.

After Dean retired from Southeast Alabama Medical Center, he and Beth served on mission with the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board in Nalerigu, Ghana at The Baptist Medical Centre for 2 years. She was a breast cancer survivor for over 20 years and lovingly served with Reach to Recovery. Her biggest blessing in her later years was to refer to her calendar and her Bible during her daily devotional time. It was her reminder to pray for family and friends. She often sent cards or called to let them know she was thinking of them.

Her family is especially grateful for the influence MeeMaw has had on all our lives. The legacy she and PawPaw has left us will be passed through the generations.

A special thanks to the staff at Westside Terrace and Gentiva Hospice for their loving care.

Contributions may be made in her memory to Calvary Baptist Church designated for missions.

Mrs. Byrd is preceded in death by her husband, Dean Henry Byrd, Sr. and by her son, Dean Byrd, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Jackie Chafin Byrd, Glenna Byrd Graverson, Janet Byrd Woodham, David L. Byrd, and Carl C. Mueller; her grandchildren, Michael Dean (Rebecca) Byrd, Joy Byrd (Hub) Harvey, Amy Poitevint (Kiley) Elmore, Faith Poitevint (Jeff) Harris, Rosalind Elizabeth Graverson, Jonathan Michael (Ginger) Woodham, Christopher Byrd (Holly) Woodham, and Dustin Ellis (Amanda) Woodham; her great-grandchildren, Harper, Reid, Colton, Ann Margaret, John Dean, Adam, Brian, and Courtney; her in laws, Nathan and Glenna Byrd, Lewis and Ramona Henderson, and loving nieces and nephews.
