Ellen Mae Barnes Henderson, 79, passed away Wednesday May 4, 2016 at a local hospital.
Funeral Services will be 11 am Monday May 9, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Horn officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am prior to the service.
Ellen Mae Barnes Henderson, a native of Dothan was born in Wilson, North Carolina. on October 17, 1936. She moved to Baltimore, Maryland at an early age and later married and move to Irvington, New Jersey to start her family. She became a neighborhood cornerstone for opening her home and heart for those who needed food, clothing, comfort, and companionship. She was a friend to all she met.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Alfonza Ora Barnes and Stella Boyette Barnes; six brothers: Herman Barnes, James Barnes, Johnnie Barnes, Cleveland Atkinson, Levi Atkinson, and Ronnie Atkinson; four sisters: Annie Barnes, Virginia Barnes, Mary Barnes, and Helen Barnes.
Survivors include her husband: Will Henry Henderson; three daughters: Gale M. Jacobs (Tony), Peggy Morrison (Rezin), Newark, New Jersey, Kiesha White; two sons: Antonio Craig (Tina), DeShaun White; one brother: Albert Ross Barnes; one sister: Aletha Sutton (George); four sister-in-laws: Mattie Ayres, Willie Pearl Carter (Walter), Tuscumbia, Al., Geraldine Jones (Paul), Joyce Lamkin (Arthur); grandchildren: Dee Henderson, Newark, New Jersey, Jay R. Morrison, Newark, New Jersey, Shaun Jacobs, Christopher Jacobs, Kaymya Craig, Irvington, New Jersey, Destiny Craig, Dothan, Alabama, Kareem Craig, Jabrea Moultry, Shakia Moultry, Altraze White, Jeremiah White, Cameron White. One nephew: Johnnie Barnes Jr.; five nieces: Loretta MacKenney, Baltimore, Maryland, Renee Barnes, Miami, Florida, Beverly Jones, Newark, New Jersey, Dr. Cynthia Sutton, East Orange, New Jersey; Bernzetta Williams (Anthony), Newark, New Jersey; Great niece: LaGayshia Jones, East Orange, New Jersey; great nephews: Lance Jones, East Orange, New Jersey, Loreal Jones, East Orange, New Jersey, Jhianna Sutton, East Orange, New Jersey: Parent-in-law; Rosena Jacobs; Son-in-law: Reggie Jacobs (Nanette) and a host of family members and friends.
