ABBEVILLE. . .Elma Ruth Mizell, a resident of Abbeville, died Friday morning, June 28, 2024, at her home. She was 79.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 30, 2024, in the Pilgrim Rest Free Will Baptist Church with Nick Wilson and Pastor Billy Cash officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Children’s of Alabama, 1600 7th Avenue, South, Birmingham, AL 35233.
Mrs. Mizell was born and reared in the Wills Crossroads community of Henry County, daughter of the late J D Smith and Ruth Davis Smith. She lived in Southport, Florida before returning to Henry County in the early 1970’s. Mrs. Mizell was a member of the Pilgrim Rest Free Will Baptist Church. She was retired from WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville. After retirement, Mrs. Mizell was self-employed as a hairdresser. She was an avid Alabama football fan. Mrs. Mizell was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Edwin Mizell “Dan” Mizell, a sister, Natalie Money, and two brothers, Joe Smith and Richard Smith.
Surviving relatives include her son, Kevin Lovett, Clarksburg, West Virginia; a special daughter-in-law, Amy Lovett, Abbeville; three step-daughters, Dana Griggs (David), Tracy Paramore (Brad), and Leslie Mizell; a sister, Marsha Murphy (Brendt), Abbeville; a brother, James D. “Shorty” Smith (Debbie), Headland; grandchildren, Kayden Lovett, Taylor Lovett Walker (Kyle), and Morgan Lovett; step-grandchildren, Mason, Jonathon and Amanda; a sister-in-law, Patsy Smith, a brother-in-law, Marty Money; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Justin Money, Chase Murphy, J W Money, James Richards, Tom Skipper and Jason Smith.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the home health providers and caregivers for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Mizell during her illness.
