Elmer Lee "Bud" Slenker, 70, of Dothan passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012 at his residence.


Services will be 2 pm Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Sunset Funeral home. Full Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.


Mr. Slenker was born January 24, 1942 in Duckrun, KY and resided in Morrow, OH the early part of his life. He graduated from Morrow High School in 1960 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Vietnam War and Desert Storm prior to his retirement at Ft. Stewart, GA after 24 years of service in 1993. Bud was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at Dothan National where he was a member of the Canal Zone Golf Group. He was preceded in death by his parents Denny Murphy and Bernice Voils.


Survivors include his wife Judy Clark Slenker; his children, David Collins, Nicholas (Emma) Slenker, Scotty (Debby) Long, Lori (Keith Sellers), and Simona Long; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois (Jay) West; a brother Mike (Lora) Murphy.
