HEADLAND. . .Eloise Cannon Baker, a former resident of Headland, died early Saturday morning, January 11, 2020, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility in Abbeville. She was 79.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 13, 2020, in the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church (located in northern Henry County) with Reverend Ralph Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A. M. Monday in the church sanctuary.


            Mrs. Baker was born and reared in Early County, Georgia, daughter of the late William Edward Cannon and Gladys Meredith Cannon. She was a 1958 graduate of Early County High School. She formerly lived in Blakely, Abbeville and Headland before moving to the nursing facility. Mrs. Baker was a member of the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church. She was formerly employed by the Blakely Sewing Factory and WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her husband, E. J. Baker, a son, Brian Keith Baker and two sisters, Ann Baker and Jewel Haire.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Susan Kemp (Michael), Headland; a son, Christopher Baker (Michelle), Blakely; five grandchildren, Alex Baker, Ashley Baker, Paul Lay (Angela), Blake Lay and Shelby Kemp, three great-grandchildren, Khloe Lay, Isaiah Lay and Emma Skelton.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Paul Baker, Destin Baker, Blake Lay, Steve Baker, Doug Willoughby and Alex Baker.
