Elsa Maurine Whitman Kirkland died August 26, 2017, in the home of her daughter, Debbie. She was born October 20, 1933 to Orie and Lucille Andrews Whitman in Ozark, AL. She moved to Dothan in 1954.

The funeral service will be in the Chapel at Sunset Funeral Home on August 28, 2017, at 11:00, with visitation one hour prior. There will be no graveside service.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, Dewey Kirkland, her sister, Elizabeth C. Helms, and brothers-in-law, Buddy Ezell and Raymond Creel.

Surviving are her sisters, Merle Ezelle, Doris Creel and Helen (Donald) Vaughn, also surviving are her children, Debbie K. Gamble, Bobby (Sandra) King, Phillip King, Mike (Sammie) King, and Renae (Patrick) Anderson, her grandchildren, April Lyons and her son John Patrick, Lisa (Taylor) Nunn and their children Ella and George, Emily Granger and her daughter Olivia, Hannah Gamble and sons Noah and Jude, Crystal (Jason) Nevin, Colby (Jade) Anderson, William (Allison) Anderson and their daughter Addie Grace; several nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend much gratitude to Alacare Hospice, especially April Pittman, Lola Little, and Phillip Durr, for their dedication and loving care during such a difficult time.

Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the Ridgecrest Baptist Church Children's Ministry.
