Emery Stephen “Steve” Creekbaum, a resident of Wicksburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at a local hospital.

Steve was born in Lebanon, Indiana. He spent his youth in Brownsburg, Indiana. He excelled in athletics, notably track and basketball, during his years at Brownsburg High School.

Steve attended the University of Evansville on a full ride basketball scholarship. As he focused on pre-med studies, Steve proudly played basketball for the University of Evansville Purple Aces under the noted coaching skills of Arad McCutchan. Steve also served in the UE Student Government Association; and, in his senior year, he was elected to serve as Student Body President.

After graduating from UE, Steve joined the United States Air Force. He began his service at Laughlin Air Force Base, TX, where he was cited for meritorious service as an Instructor Pilot and Class Commander, 47th Flying Training Wing. He obtained rank of Captain and continued service as an instructor pilot in the T-38 type aircraft. He later served in Air Defense, an Air Force assignment at Tyndall Air Force Base, FL.

Steve began working in the financial services industry and, with others, opened the Merrill Lynch Wealth Management office in Dothan, AL in the Fall of 1980. He remained with Merrill Lynch for 37 years.

While at Merrill Lynch, Steve achieved the Certified Investment Management Analyst, a credential earned via the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He was recognized for his leadership and his business acumen in joining this select group of individuals who obtained this internationally recognized credential.

For many years, Steve was an active member of the Dothan Rotary Club and he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Dothan where he served on a number of committees.

Steve was an avid golfer, a fan of outdoor activities, and he spent much of his time through the years participating in equine sports.
