DOTHAN. . .Emily Duke Tooke Murphy, a resident of Dothan, died early Tuesday morning, October 15, 2024, in Extendicare Health Center. She was 86.


            Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 17, 2024, in Gardens of Memory, between Headland & Dothan, with a nephew, Tim Duke  officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside services. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church, 3257 East Cottonwood Road, Dothan, AL 36301 or to Smyrna Baptist Church, 1800 Huskey Road, Dothan, AL 36303.


            Mrs. Murphy was born and reared in Webb, daughter of the late Evitus Lee Duke and Lennie Durden Duke. She was a 1956 graduate of Houston County High School in Columbia. Mrs. Murphy lived in Dothan most of her adult lifetime and resided at The Terrace At Grove Park before moving to Extendicare Health Center. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was a former member of Smyrna Baptist Church. Mrs. Murphy was retired from Michelin Tire. In earlier years, she was employed by Warner’s and TRW Globe Motors. She was preceded in death by the father of her children, Julian B. Tooke, Jr., a son, Todd Tooke, her second husband, Tommy Dan Murphy and his son Chris, five brothers, Rudolph Duke, Wayne Duke, Thomas Duke, Reverend Wallace Duke and Harry Duke, and a sister, Betty Mills.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Laura Tooke Taylor (Ronnie), Dothan; grandchildren, Jillian Taylor Chapman (Matt) and Erin Taylor; great-grandchildren, Beau Chapman and Scout Chapman; a brother, Ricky Duke, Webb; sisters-in-law, Kay Duke,  Nell Duke and Ouida Duke, numerous nieces and nephews, step-children, Carol and Dan, several step-grandchildren.  


            Mrs. Murphy’s favorite Biblical verse was Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
