Emma Jean Price Vaughn passed away October 3, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 91 years old.
Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2020 at Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing.
Ms. Vaughn and her husband Glyn had a lifelong love affair. They were best friends, business partners, and were devoted to their family. They laughed, worked, and sometimes cried together. They always supported each other and made all major life decisions jointly. They truly were the light of each other’s life. His last words to her on the morning he died when he saw her off to work were “I have always loved you and will love you forever.” They are now fully and happily reunited and we rejoice for them in that reunion.
Emma Jean was a devoted Mother, grandmother, and family member. She encouraged her children, grandchildren and great grands to have fun and do their best in life. She set a wonderful example by being kind and caring towards others and her faith in God was profound. While she loved her family with all her heart (and they knew it), she could also be strict on them should the need arise.
No one loved to laugh more than her. Even in the darkest of times, she could find a reason to belly laugh, making all around her feel better and comforted. She loved having fun with family, friends, and church members and in her younger days was known as an outstanding dancer. She loved working in her yards and was able to do so well into her 80s. It was something of a family joke that Mother was a fanatic about her yards. As soon as the rain stopped, she was out picking up sticks that had fallen. Heaven help the family member who drove on her grass. She also appreciated and enjoyed nature whether watching birds, butterflies, or the crops grow. She and Glyn would often ride around and look at crops.
Emma Jean was also a career woman whose first job at 18 was as a telephone switch board operator. Even into her late 50s she could recall the numbers of most of the people in Geneva. She later worked part time as a grocery clerk and finally for many years as an office manager (bookkeeper and dispatcher) for the local Gulf and Standard Oil distributors. As a result, she knew almost every farmer in Geneva County. She would work her “day job” only to come home to help Glyn in the field during harvest time, clean house, cook and freeze and can produce until midnight.
She and Glyn were quick to try to help folks who were sick, old, poor, or simply down on their luck. Their good hearts and faith led them to help many people who would have otherwise been overlooked. They were active members of Pleasant Ridge United Methodist church for over 60 years. They treasured their church and supported it with their time, talents, and money.
Ms. Emma Jean lived a long and full life. She took the bad with the good, never lost her bedrock faith, her ability to love deeply or her sense of humor. Hers was indeed a life well lived. Her family is grateful for all our time with Mee Maw and we will miss her terribly.
Emma Jean is survived by her two children Susan Vaughn, Randy Vaughn (Martha), four grandchildren, Jennifer Vaughn, Miranda Lamb (Joey), Jason Clark (Courtney), Nicole Smith (Mark). She was loved dearly by ten great grandchildren, Meagan Lamb, Makenzie Shirah, Emily Lamb, Kylee Lamb, Graycen Lamb, Shelby Clark, Dawson Clark, Cody Clark, Natalie Smith, and Madison Smith and two sisters-in-laws, Joy Price and Lillie Price.
Ms. Vaughn was born to Andrew Jackson Price and Annie Mae Ross Price on November 10, 1928 in Hartford. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Kellon, Rex, A.D., A.J. Price, Jr, Jerry and two sisters Edna Lou Coates and Annette Brannon.
The family wishes to thank her special friends Rhonda Dawsey, Jeannie Miller, and Barbara Lamb.
