MIDLAND CITY. . Emmitt Ammons, a resident of Midland City, died Sunday night, July 16, 2023, at his home. He was 89.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 19, 2023, in the Piney Grove United Methodist Church in Rehobeth, with Keith White officiating and a eulogy to be given by a son, Keith Ammons. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ammons was born and reared in the Mt. Pisgah Community of Dale County, near Echo, son of the late John Thomas Ammons and Nettie Laura Newsome Ammons. He served his country in the U. S. Army in the 82nd Airborne Division as a Paratrooper during the Korean War era. Mr. Ammons was a graduate of Wallace Community College and received a B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice from Troy University Dothan. He retired in 1987 from the Dothan Police Department as a Sergeant. In earlier years, Mr. Ammons worked as a Security Guard at Ft. Rucker and also was employed by Dolly Madison Furniture. He was a member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church. Mr. Ammons was an avid hunter and fisherman and was formerly engaged in farming. Mr. Ammons was preceded in death by his brothers, Ovie Ammons, Frank Ammons, Kenneth Ammons and Roger Ammons.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Betty Henderson Ammons, two sons, Mickey Ammons (Brandi), Abbeville; and Keith Ammons (Linda), Rehobeth; a sister, Jane Ammons Potts, Dothan; grandchildren, Tyler Ammons, Heather Ammons and Daphne Faulk (Scott); great-grandchildren, Lawson Faulk and Claire Faulk; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active and honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dothan Police Department.
