Enda Robbins Gilchrist
Enda Robbins Gilchrist, a resident of Dothan, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, January 16, 2012, at Flowers Hospital. She was 89.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Bryan and the Rev. David Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Saturday prior to service time. At other times the family will be at the home of Scott and Mary Jo Gilchrist in Dothan.
Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 1619 S. Park Ave., Dothan, AL, 36301.
Mrs. Gilchrist was born August 26, 1922 in Searight, Alabama. Following her marriage, she and her husband resided in Andalusia and then in various locations with her husband serving in the U.S. Army. She was an avid reader and she and her husband traveled extensively in their retirement years. She was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church and the Faith, Hope and Love Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Gilchrist was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She especially loved her grandchildren and cherished her role as chief encourager for the family.
She is predeceased by her husband, Leon Gilchrist and a son, Keith Gilchrist.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry Gilchrist of Dothan, Tony Gilchrist (Sandra) of Destin and Scott Gilchrist (Mary Jo) of Dothan; grandchildren, Allison Gilchrist Eriksson (Bjorn) of Stockholm, Sweden, Whitney Gilchrist Brown (Sam) of Birmingham, Lindsey Gilchrist, Austin Gilchrist, Logan Gilchrist, all of Dothan, Nicole Gilchrist of Richmond, VA, and Marla Tew of Prattville; one great grandson, Brad Singleton, of Dothan; many other extended family members.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Paola Bass and the very special nursing staff of 2-South at Flowers Hospital for their loving care of Mrs. Gilchrist.
