SHORTERVILLE. . .Ennis Chambers Greene, a resident of County Road 47, Shorterville, died Sunday morning, December 4, 2011. She was 94.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 5, 2011, in the Shorterville Baptist Church with Reverend Ray S. Reiley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shorterville Cemetery Fund, c/o Rossie Money, 2457 County Road 91, Abbeville, AL. 36310.
Mrs. Greene was a lifelong resident of Henry County, between Shorterville and Haleburg, daughter of the late George Thomas Chambers, Sr. and Mary Jane Joyner Chambers. She was an active member of the Shorterville Baptist Church where she formerly taught G.A.’s, Vacation Bible and Sunday School for over fifty years. Mrs. Greene was preceded in death by her husband, James Sterling Green, five sisters, Gladys Gay and husband, Hubert, Jennie Mae Whilden and husband, Herbert, Leacy Wilkerson, Willa Dean Rayburn and husband, Thomas, and Irene Phillips and husband, Bob, and also three brothers, Lamar Chambers and wife, Ossie Mae, George T. Chambers, Jr. and Johnny Chambers and wife, Lula Mae.
Surviving relatives include her son, George Sterling Greene and wife, Nadine Shelley Greene, Shorterville; three granddaughters, April Staton and husband, Tony, Auburn; Betsy Roszowski and husband, Gregg, Austin, TX; and Becky Lynn Greene, Shorterville; a great-granddaughter, Courtney Staton, Auburn; numerous nieces and nephews.
