Eric was born in Jackson Mississippi and grew up there with his parents and sister. He loved the outdoors and hunting from an early age. One of the proudest moments of his early childhood was when he had saved enough to purchase his own .22 rifle for squirrel hunting. This was the beginning of a lifelong love of the outdoors and hunting. While Eric dabbled at high school football, he loved running track. Eric was a loyal employee at every job he ever worked. He once skipped the awards ceremony for a track meet where he was to be honored on the podium because he did not want to be late to his job at Kroger. Even in high school, when many of his friends would have downtime, Eric was working or gathering friends together to make a plan for how he could pull off their next great adventure. His mother always knew when Eric was on his way home as 15 minutes before he arrived the house phone began to ring off the wall with all his friends calling to see what he had planned for them. Eric and his friends all decided they were going to be “State people” and headed to Mississippi State for college. He leaned into supporting his Bulldogs and never heard of too much cowbell. As in most things he tried, Eric did well in school and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and then an MBA in Economics. This launched him into the world of business and that led him to Dothan. Eric moved to Dothan and worked in orthopedic sales. He was a fierce competitor but even when given the chance to get an advantage on his competition, he would simply turn it into a prank like the time he was able to rename his competitor in the hospital system as “Ronald McDonald” so that his competition wore that label for a week before noticing what Eric had done. This became such a well-known and loved prank that his competition became his partner and is still referred to at the hospital as Ron. Eric was fiercely loyal as a friend. One of his childhood friends was in a terrible accident and lost the use of his arms and legs. His friend was very low and told Eric he did not know why he should keep living. Eric quickly organized an entire band party in his backyard and transported his friend from Jackson, Mississippi to Dothan to celebrate him and let all Eric’s Dothan friends get to meet him. There was no limit on what Eric would do for a friend.
Eric’s proudest achievement was his family. His wife Ashley and his four children were all he could talk about and all he wanted in this life. He played pranks with and on them, schooled them in pickleball, vetted the girls’ boyfriends by checking their knowledge of classic rock and roll groups and their ability to stay up all night on the “Veranda” as he called the deck by his pool, and looked for any adventure or activity they could all join in on. These adventures sometimes had less than perfect outcomes like the attempt to get the whole family to scuba dive, the misadventures with his boat operation skills (or lack of), and aspirations for a family band complete with a drum set, guitar, and banjo. Even when these things did not pan out, Eric was quick to laugh at himself and make everyone else laugh along. He constantly looked for ways to make all of his family know they were loved and all he cared about. This included never missing a practice, a school play, playing Santa Claus for a school event, playing video games when the children wanted to play, playing tennis, or simply coming to sleep in a child’s bed when they were scared. He loved his family, and they loved him. Much like Eric could not get enough cowbell, his friends and family could never get enough of Eric. He will be dearly missed by the large number of people whose lives he made better, louder, funnier, and happier.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Dennon Barron, and is survived by his wife Ashley, his children Mackenzie, Harrison, Annelise, and Logan along with his mother Faye Barron, and his sister Nicole Barron Weksler (Michael).
