HEADLAND…Eric T. Bender, a resident of Headland, died late Tuesday night, April 7, 2015, at his home. He was 56.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 11, 2015, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. and Pastor Byung Kim officiating. Burial will follow in the Headland Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Mosojchaski, New Tribes Mission, designated to: “Quechua Radio-Bolivia,” 1000 East First Street, Sanford, Florida 32832


            Eric Bender was born in Sacramento, California and was reared in Rogue River, Oregon, son of the late Jerome R. Bender and Dorothy Martenson Bender. He received a degree in Nuclear Science and a minor in Mathematics from Oregon State University. Eric served his country as a Lieutenant (JG) on a nuclear submarine from 1981 until 1985. He was formerly employed at the Perry Nuclear Plant in Perry, Ohio. Eric attended Columbia Bible College in Rutherfordton, NC. He formerly served as a Missionary in Bolivia with United World Missions before returning to the United States. Eric was then employed by the Southern Company at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant as a Project Engineer. Eric was an active participant in the Ministry of the First Baptist Church of Headland.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Shirley Crane Bender, Headland; three daughters, Lauren Bender, Sanford, FL; twin daughters, Beca Bender and Lizi Bender, both of Headland; a son, Derek Bender (Loanda), Wesley Chapel, FL; three sisters, Rhondi Feucht (Robert), Boyne City, MI; Evie Baldwin (Mike), Granbury, TX; and Anne Timbs (Jerry), Orting, WA; a brother, Dr. Joel Bender (Susan), Hermiston, OR.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Derek Bender, Joel Bender, Larry Wells, Dennis Cobb, and JaMar Walton.
