Eric William Harju, of Dothan, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013. He was 93. Funeral services will be held at 11 A. M. Thursday, May 23, 2013 from the Chapel of Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Kocsis officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with military honors.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 10 until 11 A. M. one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted.
Eric Harju was a U. S. Army world war II veteran that fought in the Pacific Theater.
Born in Wakefield, Michigan on January 27, 1920, he was part of a large family of dairy farmers until the war broke out. During his training, in Alabama, he met his bride to be Jewel Tharpe and fell in love. After the war, he came to live the rest of his life with his wife and children here in Dothan, where he went into construction and helped build many buildings here.
He was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Dothan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel and his daughters, Harriett (Amanda) and Carla Harju and his many brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his grandson, John Wakefield, Granddaughter Karyn Bromley, his last surviving sister, Julia Harju Lyon and many nieces nephews and cousins.
