ERNEST WILLIAMS


Ernest S. Williams passed away peacefully December 2, 2017, at the age of ninety-seven.


He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wylline Christmas Williams, and his father and mother, William S. and Victoria M. Williams. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia, and her husband, Joe Falkner; his son, Ted Williams, and his wife, Jamie; grandchildren: Megan Falkner Johnson (Stephen), Lauren Falkner Williams (Jerry), Scott Falkner, and Adrina Williams; and great-grandchildren Merci, Shepherd, and Ayla Jane Williams, Gray Falkner Johnson, and Dakota and Chasity Thompson and Elizabeth.


Mr. Williams was born August 31, 1920 in Geneva County, Alabama. He was retired from the healthcare industry where he worked as a hospital administrator. Mr. Williams’ career included tenures at Beard Memorial Hospital, Troy; Cullman Hospital, Cullman; Carraway Methodist Hospital, Birmingham; Elmore County Hospital, Wetumpka; Flowers Hospital, Dothan; Henry County Hospital and Nursing Home, Abbeville.


His Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Troy University and Master of Science in Hospital Administration & Business from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, gave academic support for his career in hospital administration. He was a graduate of Poplar Springs High School, Graceville, Fl.


During his career, his professional skills included administering Federal and State grants; recruitment of physicians; marketing health services, physicians, hospital and nursing home services, and providing overall executive Administrator leadership. He was a charter member of the Alabama Hospital Association and the Central Alabama Hospital Council. He was both a Director and President of Southeast Alabama Emergency Medical Services Council, President Dale County Emergency Medical Services Council, board member of Directors Alabama Hospital Association, Secretary/Treasurer Alabama Hospital Association, President of Central Alabama Hospital Council.


Mr. Williams was a member of Kiwanis International where he served in numerous leadership positions, including Lt. Governor, Division 11, AL District. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Kiwanian Award. He was most recently a member of Golden K Kiwanis, Dothan.


Mr. Williams served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps, and was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant from the Inspector General’s Department, serving as in investigative administrator. In this position, he played an important role in the Army Air Corps’ re-evaluation of the Tuskegee Airmen, 332 Fighter Group, ending aspects of racial discrimination in that bomber escort group.


Mr. Williams lived a life of service to Christ and was a devoted member and deacon of First Baptist Church, Wetumpka, First Baptist Church, Dothan, First Baptist Church, Abbeville, as well as other churches during his life.


The family would like to thank these medical professionals for their kind care of Mr. Williams: Dr. James Robeson and staff, Dr. Tim Haley, Dr. J.E. Morris, III. We are grateful to Covenant Hospice for all their kind attention. Special thanks are given to the staff at Westside Terrace Health and Rehab First. Mr. Williams developed wonderful relationships with nurses, CNAs, administration, maintenance, and dining room staff. We love and appreciate the compassionate care they showed. There are too many to name, but you all know who you are.


The family also gives special loving thanks to Patricia Christmas Carter, as well as all of Mr. Williams’ nieces and nephews, and the entire extended Williams and Christmas families.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2:00 PM, at Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Woody Farrington officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Kendall Glover of Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will be receiving friends at Glover Funeral Home prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 PM.
