ABBEVILLE. . .Ernie Money, a resident of Abbeville, died late Monday morning, May 18, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 79.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 20, 2015, in the Old Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Matthew Quincey and Reverend Jim Corley officiating. Graveside services, with Masonic Rites, will be conducted at the graveside. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice, P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, AL 36302 or Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P.O. Box 1170, Dothan, AL 36302.


            Mr. Money was born and reared in the Pilgrim’s Rest community of Henry County and lived in Wills Crossroads all his life. He served his country in the U. S. Army Reserve in the Abbeville unit. Mr. Money was a member of the Old Zion Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the Brown’s Crossroads Masonic Lodge No. 529 and was a Scottish Rite Mason.  Mr. Money was retired from the Henry County Sanitation Department as Superintendent.  In earlier years, he was employed by WestPoint Stevens for thirty-two years. He was a co-founder of the Wills Crossroads Water System where he worked and served on the water board for thirty-five years. Mr. Money was preceded in death by his father, Tommy Money, his mother, Muriel Strickland Ross and a sister, Christine Fuller.


            Surviving relatives include his devoted wife of sixty years, Marilyn Carter Money; a son, Marty Money (Natalie), all of Abbeville; three grandchildren, Marquita Money, Marita Ludlam (Matt), and Justin Money (Jade); six great-grandchildren, Garrett Money, Kayla Ludlam, Megan Ludlam, Parker Ludlam, Caleb Ludlam, and Carter Money; a daughter he never had who loved him like a Dad, Ginger Jenkins; a special friend, Mike Proffitt, a sister-in-law, Ann Williams, Columbia; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Carter (Irelle), Headland; several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Lamar Turner, Wayne Money, Ed Davis, Matt Ludlam, Mike Proffitt and Kevin Palmer.
