MIDLAND CITY. . .Ethel Kirkland Stevens, a resident of Dale County, near the Echo Community, died Monday morning, December 4, 2023, at her home. She was 102.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M Wednesday, December 6, 2023, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Jason Miller and Keith Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, near Echo. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary in Headland.
Mrs. Stevens was born and reared in the Echo area of Dale County, daughter of the late Bentley Kirkland and Eda Riley Kirkland. She lived in the Christian Hill community all her life. Mrs. Stevens was formerly employed by Wex-Tex Manufacturing Company of Headland and White Knight Manufacturing Company of Ozark. She was a member of the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Stevens was preceded in death by her husband, James Clayton Stevens, a son Dwight Stevens, a granddaughter, Sondra Michelle Stevens and a brother, Robert Junior Kirkland.
Surviving relatives include a son, Steve A. Stevens (Sandra), a sister, Alice Sewell, all of the Echo community; grandchildren, Stacy Harper (Bryan), Derick Stevens and Devan Stevens (Rhonda); great-grandchildren, Sawyer Stevens, Bailey Stevens, Tyler Stevens and Lunden Isenhower (Bobby); numerous nieces and nephews including, Patricia Mitchell, Pam Cherry, Reverend Tim Sewell (Debbie) and Dell Kirkland.
Serving as active pallbearers will be John Stevens, Jeff Stevens, Preston Stevens, Layn Sewell, Jackson Tyler Stevens and Sawyer Stevens. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ayden Terry and Jackson Gorham.
The family would like to express their appreciation to SouthernCare Hospice and especially Kimberly Bradley, Nakita McCray and Courtney Crews for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Stevens during her illness.
