Mrs. Evelyn Pinckard Nichols, 95, of Birmingham and formerly of Geneva, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Lakeview Assisted Living Facility in Birmingham. Evelyn was born February 22, 1920, in Brantley, the last surviving of 12 siblings. She married W.P. (Porter) Nichols of Luverne in 1940. In 1958 they moved to Geneva and joined First Baptist Church, where she remained a devoted member for almost 60 years. Evelyn worked for many years at MF Holmes Department Store in Geneva. She will be remembered as a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.
In addition to her parents and 11 siblings, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry, in 1959, husband, Porter in 2004, and son-in-law, Danny Harrison, in 2009.
Survivors include her daughter Julia Harrison and grandsons Dr. Keith (Kay) Harrison and Kevin (Selena) Harrison all of Birmingham; four great-grandsons – Sam, Finn, Porter and Gavin; many nieces, nephews and friends. Three sisters-in-law also survive: Margaret, Voncille and Frances Nichols, all of Luverne.
The family wishes to thank Jan Dixon and the staff at Greenwood Assisted Living Facility in Geneva, and the staff at Lakeview Assisted Living Facility in Birmingham for their loving care of Evelyn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to 1st Baptist Church of Geneva, 309 S. Commerce St, Geneva, AL 36340. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 19, at 10 AM, at First Baptist Church of Geneva, followed by the funeral at 11 AM , with Bro Nathan Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in Emmaus Cemetery in Luverne, AL at 2:30 PM . Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva is in charge of arrangements.
