SHORTERVILLE. . .Farise Martin Norris, a resident of Shorterville, died early Tuesday morning, June 11, 2013, at her home. She was 80.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, (C.D.T.) June 14, 2013, in the Shorterville Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Lee officiating and a eulogy to be given by Josh Kennedy. Burial will follow in the Shorterville Cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday in the church sanctuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Shorterville Baptist Church, c/o Rossie Money, 2457 County Road 91, Abbeville, AL 36310.


            Mrs. Norris was born and reared in Clay County, Georgia, near Ft. Gaines, daughter of the late Robert Lou Martin and Rosa Lee Pierce Martin. She was a 1950 graduate of Clay County High School in Ft. Gaines. Mrs. Norris moved to Shorterville in 1964. She was an active member of the Shorterville Baptist Church where she formerly taught a children’s Sunday School Class, Vacation Bible School and the G.A.’s. Mrs. Norris was formerly employed by WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville and for most of her lifetime, assisted her husband in the operation of the family farm. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Norris, a grandson, Merlin Daniel Cordell, a sister, Rosanell Ragan, and two brothers, Astor Martin, and Lamar Martin.


            Surviving relatives include four daughters, Wanda Holmes (Larry), Sallisaw, OK; Tammy Norris, Bobbie Paschal (Carlos), and Connie Norris, all of Shorterville; a sister, Joyce Jarrett, Albany, GA; and a sister-in-law, Imogene Martin, Dunedin, FL; a granddaughter, Kimberly Perkins.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to Advantage Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Norris during her illness.
