Claris Faye Weeks Hornsby


Faye Weeks Hornsby of Geneva, Alabama passed away Friday, May 31, 2019 at the age of 85.


Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2019 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Pastor Gene Hauser officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m.


 Mrs. Hornsby was born January 6, 1934 in Holmes County, Florida to the late Mark and Stella Parker Weeks. She attended school in Ponce de Leon, FL and graduated in 1952. She married David “Dink” Hornsby on November 9, 1956 and they began a life together in Samson, Alabama. Mrs. Hornsby drove a school bus and was a teacher’s aide at Merle Wallace Purvis Center in Geneva for many years. She devoted her life to her family and will be lovingly remembered for her sweet, gentle spirit and as the epitome of a refined southern lady.


 She was a member of Beulah Anna Baptist Church in Holmes County, FL.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dink Hornsby; one son, Harold Little and one brother, Gene Weeks.


 Survivors include four sons, Ricky (Linda) Hornsby of Geneva, AL, David Hornsby, Jr. of Geneva, AL, Hayward (Jean) Hornsby of Niceville, FL, and John (Lea) Hornsby of Dothan, AL; eight grandchildren: Sherri (Scott) King, Sharla Grantham, Shannon (Jeremy) Yarbrough, Shanae Little, Brittnay (Enrique) DelAngel, David Hornsby, Jenna (Lee) Gantt and Erin (Bret) Womack; eight great-grandchildren: Buckie & Sidney Grantham, Jamey & Josh King, Colton & Alissa Yarbrough, and Eli & Mary Elizabeth Gantt; her brother, Jack (Tommie) Weeks; her sister, Martha Horton; a daughter-in-law, Teresa Little; and several other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.


Pallbearers will be Hayward Hornsby, John Hornsby, David B. Hornsby, Steve Hornsby, Wyman Hornsby and Buckie Grantham.


The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Wiregrass Medical Center and Nursing Home for the special care that was given to Mrs. Hornsby over the last four years.
