Mrs. Flora Elizabeth “Liz” Sheffield Tew of Enterprise, AL passed away Monday, September 3, 2012 at home after a brave fight with pancreatic cancer. She was 66 years old.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Friday, September 7 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise with Chaplain Chris Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Esto Community Cemetery in Esto, FL with Sorrells Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6 until 8 pm. Liz was born October 16, 1945 in Graceville, FL to the late Roy M. and Cleo Cartwright Sheffield. She was raised in Esto, FL and graduated from Bonifay High School. After marrying Charles Lenthas Tew on September 25, 1965, they resided in Hartford, Alabama. They moved to Enterprise, AL in 1973, where they spent the rest of their lives together. In addition to being a homemaker, Liz was a FAA-certified helicopter instrument instructor, and a substitute teacher for the Enterprise City School System. She was a loving wife and mother, and nothing gave her greater pleasure than to spend time with those close to her. She enjoyed working in the kitchen, taking care of her own and others’ children, riding around in the country, and above all, the hours of conservation that invariably started with the phrase, “Let’s talk.” She was a Southern lady, but she was also a daughter of the Wiregrass, and she never forgot her roots.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Lenthas Tew of Enterprise; one daughter and son-in-law, Kyla Elizabeth Tew and John Glover of Richmond, VA; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles Lenthas, Jr. and Amy Tew of Birmingham, AL and their children, Chad and Emma; her brother and sister-in-law, John and Shirley Sheffield of Orlando, FL; her sister, Janice Byrd of Cocoa Beach, FL; her sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Raymond Swann of San Antonio, TX; her dear friends, Jean and Junior Finch of Pensacola, FL, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
