Florida Street Ward of Geneva passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018. She was 85 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the Geneva Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dee Koza officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to Purpose and Promise Ministries, P.O. Box 14, Geneva, AL 36340 or to the Artful Wonders Program, c/o of the Geneva Presbyterian Church, P.O. 417, Geneva, AL 36340.
Florida was born and raised in Marianna, FL on September 23, 1933 to the late William Stephen and Francis Golson Street. She graduated from Marianna High School and attended Chipola Junior College. She was married to her husband of 61 years, John Thomas Ward. Shortly after their marriage, John and Florida relocated to Geneva where he and his brothers started the local Ford Dealership, Ward Motor Company.
Florida was well known for her wonderful cooking skills and her home was always open to her dear family and friends. She never met a stranger and always had a smile and a laugh that would brighten up any day. Florida was special.
Florida was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will forever be cherished by everyone she touched.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Ward; one son, John T. “Little John” Ward; and her brother, Steve Street.
She is survived by two daughters, Stephanie W. Chesteen (Donnie) of Geneva, and Johna W. Buntyn (Mark) of Lake Providence, LA; one son, Robert Hagler Ward of Geneva; six grandchildren, John Christopher Chesteen of Hartford, Roxanna Leigh Chesteen of Geneva, Robert Hagler Ward, II (Casey) of Geneva, Haden Ward Brown (Ryan) of Ashford, Hunter Walker Ward (Hannah) of Geneva, and Matthew Street Buntyn of Oxford, MS; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ursula Wallace of Dothan.
