Floyd Owens of Dothan, Alabama passed away Monday morning July 3, 2017 in his sleep at his home after a prolonged illness. He was 89 years of age.

The family will have visitation at Ward Wilson Funeral Home in Dothan, Alabama on Friday, July 7 from 6 pm til 8 pm. Funeral services will be Satruday July 8 at 10 am with Brother Wade Register presiding. Burial will follow at Memory Hill cemetery adjacent to the funeral home. Pallbearers are Zeb Owens, Jackson Owens, Jason Tammell, Richie Bass, Michael Gant, and Mike Crenshaw.

Floyd was born on January 21, 1928 in rural Houston County, Alabama. He was the third of nine children born to the late George Beauregard (“G”) Owens and the late Gussie Vela McCraney Owens. He married Glenda Louise White on June 3, 1951. Floyd was husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. During his lifetime, he was a skilled farmer and livestock producer. Despite the unavoidable hardships associated with agriculture, he loved farming, the land, planting & harvesting, and reaping the fruits of his labors. After retiring, he got immeasureable joy from watching the cattle from his porch that his grandson, Zeb, raised. He enjoyed good food, good drink, and grilling. He especially enjoyed the periodic egg custards that his granddaughter, Amanda, brought by. He loved his wife of 63 years. He loved his sons, he loved their wives, his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, and his countless nieces and nephews, and his extended family by marriage. He loved his Creator and had a personal spiritual relationship with Almighty God, Jehovah.

Floyd dedicated his life to the Universal Sovereign, Jehovah God and symbolized it by water immersion in July, 1946. His biblical study, deep research into spiritual things and intimate knowledge of the Holy Scriptures had showed him the hope of a resurrection to a perfect life in an earthly paradise as the Creator intended. He was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 71 years and was actively engaged in the worldwide preaching work telling about God’s promises for the future through the realization of His Kingdom rule. He studied the Bible with people showing them God’s plan to restore the earth to a paradise through the Redeemer, Christ Jesus as verified by a thorough examination of the Bible. He was a full-time minister in the witnessing work for many years after which he regularly shared in the door-to-door preaching until ill health overtook him. He is now in Jehovah’s memory and asleep in death faithfully waiting on that assured resurrection.

He is predeceased by his wife of 63 years (Glenda White Owens), by a son (Thomas Paul Owens), by his parents (George Beauregard & Gussie McCraney Owens), and by three brothers (Millard Calvin Owens, Willie Olin “Pete” Owens & George Monroe Owens).
