ASHFORD. . .Foy Levon "Buck" Shelley, a resident of the Pleasant Plains Community of Houston County, died Wednesday, March 14, 2018, in a Dothan Hospital. He was 74.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, March 17, 2018, in the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church with Rev. Darrell Cook and Rev. Teddy Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
Mr. Shelley was born on January 4, 1944, in Donalsonville, GA to the late Foy Oscar Shelley and Mary Ohline Cobb Shelley. He moved to Chipley, FL at an early age and lived there until adulthood. Mr. Shelley resided in the Houston County area for the last fifty years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served one tour of active duty during the Vietnam Campaign. Upon completion of his Army service he was employed and retired from Pemco Aeroplex, Inc. after twenty seven years of service. Mr. Shelley was of the Baptist faith and a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church of Ashford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Shelley and Bobby Shelley.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Judy Sims Shelley; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel Foy Shelley (Krista), Columbia; Samuel Maxwell Shelley (Camille), Oakhurst, NJ; three grandchildren, Kaleb Foy Shelley, Taylor Elsbeth Thompson, and Zachary Eli Thompson; four sisters, Jean Dean Tice, Ashford; Ann Ward, Auburndale, FL; Patsy Williams (Kenny), Marianna, FL; Betty Morris (James), Headland; two brothers, Jimmy Shelley (Joyce), Dothan; Johnny Shelley (Faye), Midland City; a sister-in-law, Sadie Shelley, Dothan; mother-in-law, Louise Sims, Ashford; brother-in-law, Jimmy Sims (Carol), Ashford; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and family.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Bob Albert, Brian McCraney, Keith Williams, Roger Dean, Jim Smith, Rex Snellgrove, Matthew McCraney and Jimmy Sims. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Pitchford and Tony McCraney.
Special thanks go out to all of the doctors, nurses, caregivers, the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church and community, family, friends and neighbors for the love and devotion shown during the past six and one half years. Your presence made a difference in our lives.
