ABBEVILLE. . .Frances Bond Strickland, a resident of Abbeville, died early Sunday afternoon, August 21, 2016, at her home. She was 78.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 23, 2016, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend George Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, near Headland. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary in Abbeville.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Sardis Baptist Church, c/o Brenda Roberson, 1597 County Road 133, Abbeville, AL 36310.


            Mrs. Strickland was a native of the Concord community of Henry County, daughter of the late Rayford Merle Bond and Lucile Inez Jones Bond. She moved with her family to Abbeville as a child and lived in various locations in the U. S. and overseas while her husband served in the U. S. Army. Mrs. Strickland returned to Abbeville 1978. She was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church, a life member of the D.A.V. Ladies Auxiliary and was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Strickland was formerly employed as a Dispatcher with the City of Abbeville police department. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Strickland, a son-in-law, Daniel Ward, and a brother, Rayford Milton Bond.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Pamala Strickland Ward, Abbeville; two sons, Jeffery L. Strickland, Abbeville; and Tony R. Strickland (Linda), Headland; a granddaughter, Melissa D. Strickland; a sister, Merle Mendheim (Doyle), Macon, GA; sisters-in-law, Ann Baugh (Jim), Columbus, GA; and Yvonne (Flusie) Wright, Abbeville; several nieces and nephews.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to Gentiva Hospice and Dr. Kenneth Tucker for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Strickland during her illness.
