Frances S. Holley of Dublin, GA, formerly of Marianna, FL, passed away on January 15, 2019. She was 88. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church in Marianna, FL with Dr. Nathan Attwood officiating. A committal service will follow at Travelers Rest Cemetery in Samson, AL at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7thFloor, New York, NY 10001.
Mrs. Holley was born in Lasca, AL on April 16, 1930, to the late James Wesley Smith, Sr. and Minnie Bertha Beck Smith. She was a longtime member of the Marianna First United Methodist Church. She graduated from Huntingdon College and retired from the Geneva City School System where she was an elementary teacher during the 1950s and ‘60s. Mrs. Holley later taught school in Marianna, FL during the ‘60s and early ‘70s. She then owned and operated A-1 Liquor Store for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Davidson Holley; four brothers, James Wesley Smith, Jr., Dalton Smith, Evie Winston Smith, and Kenneth Smith; and a sister, Bernice Smith.
She is survived by a sister, Carolyn Hanks of Oklahoma City, OK; half-brother, Wayne Smith of Hattiesburg, MS; half-sister, Dyanne Steele of Selma, AL; a special nephew, Jeffrey Smith of Dublin, GA; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
