DOTHAN. . . Frances Shelley “Frankie” Givens, a resident of Dothan, formerly of Headland, died Monday afternoon, October 25, 2021. She was 95.

            Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, October 28, 2021, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Ricky Plummer and Reverend Hugh D. Kirkland officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 A. M. Thursday at the mortuary. Social distancing and mask guidelines will be observed.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

            Mrs. Givens was born in the Tumbleton Community of Henry County and was reared in Newville, daughter of the late Joel Shelley and Thelma Jewel Bond Shelley. She formerly lived in Columbus, Georgia and Miami, Florida before moving to Headland in 1971. She had lived in Dothan since 2018. Mrs. Givens was a member of the First Baptist Church of Headland and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Byrd Givens, a son, John Wilson Givens, a daughter, Jackie Givens Leddon, four sisters, Joan Woodham, Vivian Wright, Clogene Sprouse and Agnes Kirkland, and a brother, Jay Shelley.

            Surviving relatives include a son, Joel Givens (Connie), Miami, FL; a daughter-in-law, Janice Givens, Dothan; a son-in-law, Ron Leddon, two sisters, Betty Kirkland, Newville; and Yvenette Parrish (Harold), Birmingham; seven grandchildren, Diane Dunaway (Justin), Jonathan Givens (Brandy), Jennifer Givens, Shelley Lybarger (Craig), Aaron Leddon (Dena), Benjamin Robbins (Jessica) and Colby Leddon; twelve great-grandchildren.

   The family would express their appreciation to a special caregiver, Sharon Roberson, for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Givens.
