FRANCES  SKELTON  SPANN



JACKSON, GEORGIA.. Frances Skelton Spann, a resident of Jackson, Georgia, formerly of Headland, Alabama and Panama City, Florida, died Thursday afternoon, February 21, 2013, at the home of a daughter, Wylene Tomlin, in Jackson Lake, Georgia. She was 85.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 24, 2013, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Joey Pettis and Pastor Mike Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Haleburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Mrs. Spann was born near Columbia and was reared in Haleburg, daughter of the late William Newton Skelton and Mary Williams Skelton. She retired from SunTrust Bank in Lynn Haven, Florida, as head teller. In earlier years, she and her late husband, Alfred Moease Spann, operated the Barney Gray Motel on Panama City Beach, Florida. Mrs. Spann was a former member of the Eastern Star in Panama City. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Headland and was currently attending First Baptist Church of Jackson, Georgia.  Mrs. Spann was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Sharon Spann Faile.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Griffin Christian Ministries Hospice, 621 Carver Road, Griffin, GA 30224.


            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Brenda Spann Barron and husband, Jerry, Ocala, FL; and Wylene Spann Tomlin and husband, Chris, Jackson Lake, GA; two brothers, Charlie Ray Skelton and wife, Sue, Panama City Beach, FL; and Bill Skelton and wife Judy, Abbeville, AL; six grandchildren, Vanessa Wood, Deryl Everette, Cheryl Everette, Lynn Taylor and husband, Billy, Allan Hawkins, Jr., and Larry Payton, Jr.; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.


           Serving as active pallbearers will be Jim Haney, Brian Skelton, Allan Hawkins, Sr., Don Dresser, Lee Kinard, and Billy Shelley.
