“Miss Frances” was born on August 8, 1926 in Decatur, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents Fred Otto Smith, Sr. and Sarah Rhine Smith, her husband, best friend, and fellow servant of the Lord, Reverend John E. Christy, and her brother, Fred Otto Smith, Jr.

“Miss Frances” had many interests, which included serving the Lord, caring for her family, sewing, softball, and mentoring fellow Alabama church and daycare children’s workers. Being the devoted wife and helpmate to Brother John for sixty-seven years, “Miss Frances” was a loving mother to her three children, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter who were her highest priorities in her life. She served alongside her minister husband in churches in Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama. A few years after Brother John was called to Calvary Baptist Church in Dothan in 1973, “Miss Frances” helped plan, organize, and start the Calvary Child Development Center. For twenty-eight years, she lovingly taught, nurtured, and cared for hundreds of children who came through her classes at the child development center. In the various churches where the Christy’s served, you would find “Miss Frances” teaching children in Sunday School, Discipleship Training, Bible Sword Drills, and Vacation Bible School. She was truly delighted, and honored to mentor fellow Baptist children’s workers across the state of Alabama and Leadership Conferences. Every Thursday morning, she demonstrated her servant’s heart as she faithfully worked at the Columbia Baptist Ministry THEE STORE.

“Miss Frances” will be greatly missed by all her who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her sweet personality, her winsome smile, her devoted service to the Lord, and her genuine love for children.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Patricia Ann Christy Granger (Bobby), Dothan; and Joyce Elaine Christy Sullivan (Ron), San Antonio, TX; a son, Johnny Russell Christy (Carol), Greenville, S.C.; two sisters, Allie Ruth Murdock, and Dot Thompson, both of Denton, TX; eight grandchildren, Russell Christy, Christy Sullivan, Jaclyn Granger Oliver (Mark), Marie Christy Carpenter (Steven), Robyn Granger Rowell (Wesley), Ann Christy Godfrey (Will), Angela Sullivan, and Veronica Sullivan Beers (Jason); eleven great-grandchildren, Destiny Cole, Courtney Oliver, Andrew Oliver, Brantley Oliver, James Cole, Preston Oliver, Elizabeth Cole, Liam Godfrey, Georgia Ann  Carpenter, Drew Godfrey, and Greyson Oliver, a great-great-granddaughter, Lilly Ohara; and a whole host of friends, and fellow Christian servants.

The Christy family is very grateful for the ministry, and care given to “Miss Frances” by American Home Care, Azalea Court Assisted Living, The Terrace At Grove Park, and the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility.
