Frances Yarbrough Gray, 76, passed away at home early Sunday morning, February 1, 2015. She joins her beloved parents and husband, Wat and Carrie Yarbrough, and Howard Gray in a heavenly reunion. She also joins her great grandchild Baxley Kole Glover. Visitation will be Monday, February 2, 2015 from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral services will be at 10am at First United Methodist Church Geneva, Tuesday, February 3, 2015.
Frances was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. A proud member of the Geneva High School class of 1957, she especially enjoyed her class reunions as part of the homecoming week. While attending Troy State University, she met her husband, Howard, married, and had 3 children, Lanny, Mike, and Terri. Frances then graduated from the University of Alabama in Birmingham and began a career as a high school English teacher.
As a mother, she spent many hours at ballparks and gyms watching all three of her children play. She never complained, no matter how late she got home. After her husband passed away in 1986, Frances came to embrace her independence. When she retired, she moved back home to Geneva and became a member of the Geneva First United Methodist Church. She loved her church and the Lions Club, and was a tireless worker when she was able.
Frances loved going to see her children and grandchildren, but she also loved going home. She never went anywhere without her faithful dog Katie. She was a faithful fan of Ashford High School Girls Basketball and Softball, where Terri was coaching. She loved being back in Geneva near her sisters Kitty, Carol, and Barbara. Beside her family, she enjoyed her friends, and was always willing to help out when needed.
Frances went by many names from those that loved her. She was Mama, Sissy, and Granny Fran to everyone in her family. She loved her children as much as they loved her, and were all blessed to be part of a special family.
Frances is survived by her children Lanny Gray and his wife Darlene, Mike Gray and his wife Elaine, and Terri Gray and Sally Meadows. She is also survived by her grandchildren Josh Glover, his wife Melissa, and their children Kayden and Kase, Alison Hill and her husband Nick, and their children Stewart and Judson, and Hank Gray.
Pall Bearers for the service will be Ben Vickers, Scott Gray, Jeff Gray, Trey Vickers, John Commander, and Alan Etheridge.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to either First United Methodist Church Geneva, Geneva Lions Club, or the Geneva Rescue Squad.
