For a moment, the Johnson family’s world stood still as our Matriarch, our Monnie, Frankie Jones, left her earthly home bound for Heaven and Jesus. Our Monnie proudly boasted her longevity of 103 years. Monnie was born July 2, 1918, and departed this life August 22, 2021.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by parents, Woody and Minnie Barnes, husbands Sewell Johnson and Fred Jones, brothers Luther Barnes, Louie Barnes, Lex Barnes, Louis Barnes, and sister Dorothy Barnes Dickerson. Frankie was the last surviving member of her family.
Frankie is survived by son Woody Johnson (Eloise Davis), daughter Kathy Peterson, grandchildren Brad (Lora) Johnson, Annie (Greg) Ward, Josh (Lori) Henderson, great- grandchildren Brady, Quinn and Ava Claire Johnson, and Kaylee and Karlie Henderson, and a host of nieces, nephews and family members she dearly loved.
Frankie enjoyed working, and worked most of her life. She worked for the United States Selective Service for 32 years in Geneva County. After she retired from the Selective Service, she worked for Attorney Joe Hughes in Geneva for 15 years. As retirement didn’t suit her, she later worked as the director for the Coffee Springs Senior Citizens Center until she was 88 years old.
Frankie had a great joy for life. She spent many hours playing dominoes, working crossword puzzles, dancing and spending time with her many friends. She loved to travel and did so at every opportunity. She loved her family most of all. They were her pride and joy and she never missed a chance to celebrate a birthday or holiday with them. She was blessed with a long life and her family and friends were blessed with her presence.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday August 25, 2021 at Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva, Alabama, with burial to follow after the service at the Coffee Springs City Cemetery. The service will be directed by grandson Major Josh Henderson and Rev. Ricky Hall. Visitation will be at the Warren Holloway Ward chapel starting one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Coffee Springs Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 8, Coffee Springs, Alabama 36318.
The family wants to express a special thank you to Becky Shehee, Rebecca Wallace, Brandi Matthews, Sandra Mills, Sybil Hunter, Southern Care Hospice and Dr.’s Kurt Kraft and Fleming Brooks and their staffs.
