HEADLAND. . .Franklin Glenis Granberry, a resident of Headland, died early Friday morning, March 2, 2012, at his home. He was 91.



            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, March 4, 2012, in the Bethlehem Baptist Church with Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating. Graveside services, with full military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary.



            Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church Building Fund, 2506 State Highway 134, East, Headland, AL. 36345.



            Mr. Granberry was born and reared in Columbia, son of the late George Frank Granberry and Margaret Pamela Armstrong Granberry. He was a graduate of Houston County High School in Columbia. Mr. Granberry enlisted in the U.S. Navy at an early age and served his country in the Navy twenty years retiring with rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was a veteran of World War II and served aboard the U.S.S. Battleship Mississippi in the Pacific Theatre at Guadalcanal and Bougainville. After his retirement from the military, Mr. Granberry was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration in Jacksonville, Florida. Upon moving to Headland in 1966, he became employed by U.S. Civil Service at Fort Rucker as an electronics technician. Mr. Granberry formerly served on the central Board of Directors of Southland Bank and also served as a past President of the Henry County Cattlemen’s Association. He was an active member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Mr. Granberry was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Parker Granberry, five sisters, Beatrice Spivey, Flossie Richards, Teds Baggett, Renie Bryant and Ky Sharff, a brother, Monford Granberry, and a grandson, Ryan Darnell.



            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Reverend Glenda Granberry Davis and husband, Marvin; a son, Frank Parker Granberry and wife, Vickie, all of Headland; a brother, Bill Granberry, Sarasota, FL; four grandchildren, Janet Davis Hasson and husband, Robert, Antibes, France; John Davis and wife, Dawn, Manhattan, N.Y.; Chad Granberry and wife, Savannah, Headland; Dustin Granberry and wife, Beth, Alpharetta, GA; three great-grandchildren, Lucie Hasson, Amélie Hasson and Ben Granberry; many nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Joy Parker, a brother-in-law, Mike Parker and wife, Carole, all of Headland.



            Serving as active pallbearers will be John Davis, Chad Granberry, Dustin Granberry, Bill Jack Granberry, Jim Parker, Chris Parker and Larry Bryant.



            The family extends a special thank you to Sarah Chalmers, who cared for our loved one for over two years. We also appreciate his other caregivers, including the nurses and staff of Gentiva Hospice (formerly Wiregrass Hospice).
