Fred Douglas Gamble, age 85, of New Brockton, AL passed away, Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 13, 2014
at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with Rev. Roy Turner and Rev. Derek Snellgrove officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Hardshell Primative Baptist Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 P.M until 8:00 P.M., Friday, December 12th.
As a member of “the greatest generation”, he served on the USS Midway during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston Douglas and Mildred Marie (Blair) Gamble; a brother, Gilbert Gamble; a granddaughter, Amanda Miller Brown; great-granddaughter, Angel Seay; two great-grandsons, David Micheal Peters and Jeremy Seay.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Willie Louise Yohn Gamble, New Brockton; a son, Albert D. Gamble (Debbie) Dothan, AL; two daughters, Beverly Pair (James) New Brockton; Theresa Stout (Cliff) New Brockton; a sister, Helen Moore, Andalusia, AL; seventeen grandchildren, Bereka Paez (Bill), Daleville, AL, Alena Wilhite (Marc), Enterprise, AL, Tonja Elia (Paul), Daleville, AL, Sonja Peters (Daniel), Wewahitchka, FL, Wayne Brown, Enterprise, AL, Daniel Pair, Jr., Enterprise, AL, Shanna Holland (Dallas), Tuscaloosa, AL, Emily Granger, Dothan, AL, Hannah Gamble, Dothan, AL, April Lyons, Dothan, AL, Lisa Nunn (Taylor), Birmingham, AL; thirty seven great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.
