Frederick “Fred” Charles Heath of Geneva, AL passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023. He was 97.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 09, 2023 at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating and Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Mr. Heath was born in Stafford Springs, CT to the late Frederick Lewis and Marion Emma Cooley Heath. He proudly served his country in the US Army/Air Force. After retirement, in 1990, he successfully completed the title of Appalachian Trail Thru Hiker, 2152 miles in 176 days. He proudly volunteered at the Cherokee Co. Historical Museum in Murphy, NC. It was his love for history that caused him to donate his time, artifacts, arrowheads and much more to the museum. He was always giving to someone else, unselfishly. Mr. Fred was a proud cancer survivor of more than 25 years. He was an accomplished Trap and Skeet Shooter. On one occasion, he shot in competition against Roy Rogers and won with a perfect 100. Roy finished with 99. He often spoke of this accomplishment with a great big smile.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years Julia “Julie” Grace Brackett Heath.
Mr. Fred is survived one daughter, Ginny Shiver (Clevie); one granddaughter, Amanda Hitchcock (Fred); two great grandchildren, Camryn and Terry Alberson; three step grandchildren, Autumn Cameron, Anthony Shiver, and Ashleigh Filipone (Justin); six step great grandchildren, Bayleigh Shiver, Serenity Shiver, Joleigh Cameron, Ashlynn Cameron, Elliana Cameron, and Hayden Alberson; two brothers, Archie Heath of Cape Cod, MA and Lewis Heath of Keene, NH; special “Fur Baby”, Rascal; numerous nieces, nephews, and many special friends.
