HEADLAND…Garrett D. Dykes, a resident of Headland, died late Wednesday morning, October 29, 2014, at his home. He was 67.


            Graveside services, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 1, 2014, in the Ramah Baptist Church Cemetery, 17849 North U.S. Highway 29, Banks, Alabama 36005, with Reverend Orvie Locklar officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.


            Mr. Dykes was born and reared in the Tanyard Community in Bullock County, AL. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Dykes lived in Montgomery most of his lifetime before moving to Headland in 2004. He was formerly employed as store manager of Genuine Auto Parts in Montgomery.  Mr. Dykes was a member of the Ramah Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Doran Doster Dykes, his mother, Mattie Garrett Dykes Granberry and his sister, Ann Riley.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Regina Pilkington, Montgomery; two sons, Jeff Dykes (Kara) and Jeremy Dykes (Bridget), of Headland; a brother, James Doran Dykes (Lissa), Loganville, GA; seven grandchildren, Blake Brooks, Haley Brooks, Megan Kerr (Jared), Jackson Dykes, Tara Kate Dykes, Alyssa Dykes and McKenna Dykes; and two great-grandchildren, Aiden Kerr and Anna Brooks; two nephews, Lee Riley (Deanna), and Grant Dykes, all of Loganville, GA; a niece, Courtney Yates (Trent), Atlanta, GA; two great-nieces, Kelly and Mattie Riley.



            Serving as active pallbearers will be Jackson Dykes, Blake Brooks, Jared Kerr, Trent Yates and Keith Furr.
