Gary Douglas Sowell of Geneva, Alabama passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 13, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Wesley Adams, Rev. Don Gainey and Rev. Gary Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the East Pittman Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Holmes County with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, February 12, from 2 until 4 p.m.
Gary was born June 17, 1957 to the late Malcom and Foy Thomas Sowell. He loved spending time on the Choctawhatchee River fishing and being with his dog Chip. Gary was a member of East Pittman Freewill Baptist Church. He was a very loving brother, husband and father.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Jones Sowell, Geneva, AL; one daughter, Samantha Sowell Walker (Josh); one son, Dustin Sowell (Jessie Still) all of Troy, AL; one sister, Gilda Hobbs (Butch), Port St. Joe, FL; step mother, Jean Ward, Bonifay, FL; two nephews: Chad Hobbs, Callaway, FL and Ricky Hobbs, Atlanta, GA; one great niece; two great nephews; several special cousins; other extended family and a host of friends.
Active pallbearers will be Mark Curry, Jamie Conner, Cecil Somerset, Jerry Sowell, David Hayes and Gregory Brown.
Danny Curry and Neal Mixon will serve as honorary pallbearers
