Gary Edwards, 68, a resident of Headland, passed away Monday, March 14, 2016 at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at the Sunset Funeral home Chapel with Rev. Steve Trail officiating. Burial will follow at Eastside Free Will Baptist church with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 1461 Timbers Drive, Dothan, AL 36301.

Mr. Edwards was born July 26, 1947 in Flint, Michigan and moved to Dothan at the age of 9. He was a 1965 graduate of Dothan High School and received his Bachelors Degree from Welch College in Nashville. He also attained dual Masters Degrees in Guidance and Counseling and Criminal Justice from Troy University. He was employed with the State of Alabama for 25 years as a Parole Probation Supervisor until his retirement in 2000. Gary was a longtime member of First Free Will Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. He loved Alabama football, fishing, watching old western movies and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a faithful follower of Christ.

Survivors include his wife Linda Edwards; his son, Garrett (Katherine) Edwards; his daughter, Joy (Yancy) Carpenter; his grandchildren, Garrison, Kaleb and Mason Edwards, Emily and Jack Carpenter.
