NEWVILLE. . .Gary LaDon McArdle, a resident of the Tumbleton community of Henry County, died Thursday morning, July 25, 2024, in a Dothan hospital. He was 79.
Memorial services, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 29, 2024, in the Sardis Baptist Church, near Abbeville, with Reverend George Bryan and Reverend Jim Corley officiating. Burial will follow in the Kinsey Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Monday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sardis Baptist Church “Building Fund”, c/o Brenda Roberson, 1597 County Road 133, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Gary McArdle was born in Jakin, Georgia and moved with his family to the Brown’s Crossroads community in Henry County as a teenager. He later moved to Norfolk, Virginia where he graduated from Granby High School in 1964. At an early age, Gary enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War era. He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church. Gary was retired from the Department of Agriculture, U. S. Forestry Service, as a Communications Manager. He was preceded in death by his father, James Barney McArdle, his mother, Glinnie Creel McArdle, a grandson, Austin McArdle, and two sisters, Luzetta Edwards and Ruth Whitehead.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Ann Walker McArdle; three daughters, Lisa Woody (Barry), Newville; Barbara Sims (Jeff), Flemington, West Virginia; and Hannah Harsey (Triston), Bristol, Florida; two sisters, Ann Harrington, Newville; and Barbara Anderson, Green River, Utah; grandchildren, Loretta, Arrianne, Levi, William, Jonathan, Ava Clara, Grace, Elijah and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Lilith.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the Critical Care Unit on the 3rd Floor of Southeast Health and especially Dr. Laucito, Dr. Randall, Jessica, Matthew, Omar, Quan, Steven, Eric, Sawyer and Shannon for the loving care and kindness shown to Gary during his illness.
