Gene Mitchell, 81, of Dothan passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. John and Martha Baxter officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8pm. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Denton Road United Methodist Church.

Mr. Mitchell was born on February 14, 1931 in Abingdon, Virginia and lived there the early years of his life. He was a Veteran of the Korean War having served in the Army. Mr. Mitchell resided in Dothan since 1968, and was employed with Auto Electric Company and Bobcat of the Wiregrass for several years until his retirement in January, 2012. He was a member of Denton Road United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Mitchell; two sons, James Eric Mitchell and Joseph Edwin Mitchell (Janie Woodall); three daughters, Jeri (Larry) Grissom, Gina (Sam) Stanfield, and Joy (David) Perkins; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Mitchell and Charles Mitchell; four sisters, Jane Cumbow, Nancy Fogleman, Lorraine Child, and Peggy Bianchi; several nieces and nephews also survive.
