GENE  ORLANDA  THOMPSON

 

DOTHAN. . .Gene Orlanda Thompson, a resident of Dothan, died early Sunday afternoon, May 12, 2013, in a Dothan hospital. He was 77.

            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, between Headland and Columbia, with Reverend Danny Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in the church sanctuary.

            Mr. Thompson was born in Houston County, near Ashford, son of the late Major Taft Thompson and Annie Mae Wood Thompson. He lived in Houston and Henry Counties all his life. Mr. Thompson was of the Baptist faith. He was retired as the owner and operator of Thompson’s Tree Service. In earlier years, he was engaged in farming. Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by a son, Steve Allen Thompson, a sister, Irelle Ramage, and two brothers, Rex Allen Thompson and Hayward Thompson.

            Surviving relatives include his wife, Christene Bowen Thompson, Dothan; his children and step-children, Bobby Thompson, Seale, AL; Imogene Thompson, Kinsey, AL; Mary Ellen Dunn, Gordon, AL; Laura Cagle, Roy, Utah; Miles Scott, Headland; Glenda Burkett, Headland; Ricky Wade, Lehi, Utah; Donna Shields, Augusta, GA; William Scott, and Carlton Holbrook, both of Ozark, AL; three sisters, Mack Ellen Hughes, Martha McDaniel, and Vivian Hicks, all of Dothan; three brothers, Billy Joe Thompson, Dothan; Johnny Thompson and Dennis Thompson, both of Headland; twenty-three grandchildren, forty-nine great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.  

            Serving as active pallbearers will be Scott Conrad, Tony Conrad, Shane Wilson, Derick Conrad, Kyle Johnson, Chris Minshew, and Chris Cannon.
