Geneva Hobgood Carlisle

 

Geneva Hobgood Carlisle of Dothan died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 15, 2012 in the chapel at Byrd Funeral Home in Dothan with the Reverend Ed Wright of Calvary Baptist Church officiating and Msgr. Patrick Gallagher of St. Columba Church contributing. Visitation will be at 9:00 am preceding the service. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes, P.O. Box 361767, Birmingham, AL 35236.

 

Mrs. Carlisle was born April 27, 1913 in Calvert City, Kentucky, to Smith Hobgood and Ota Young Hobgood. Known as Gean to everyone who knew her, she grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1938 she married Bernard Bereswill in Paducah, KY, and moved to St. Louis, MO., where she raised her family. The family moved to the Chicago area where her husband died in 1963. In 1988, she married Whatley Carlisle and moved to Dothan, where she lived for 20 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Dothan.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and a son, Bernard Bereswill Jr.

 

Survivors include three daughters: Roberta (Sam) Genovese, Karen Lunardi, and Joyce (Greg) Neher; three step-daughters: Jan (Steve) Nall, Christa (Ken) Mosely and Sara Hodges; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren.
