HEADLAND. . .George Byrd Granberry, a resident of Headland, died  Sunday morning, November 15, 2015, at his home. He was 93.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 18, 2015, in the Hebron Baptist Church with Reverend Mark Brantley and Reverend Ted Forrester officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Hebron Baptist Church, c/o Butch Glover. 6952 State Highway 134, East, Columbia, AL 36319.


            Mr. Granberry was a lifelong resident of the Hebron community of Henry County, son of the late Thomas Whit Granberry and Mary Etta Burnham Granberry. He served his country in the U. S. Army immediately following World War II and participated in the restoration of Italy. Mr. Granberry was engaged in farming most of his lifetime. He was an active member of the Hebron Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and as caretaker for the church cemetery for thirty years. Mr. Granberry was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Brannon Granberry,  five sisters, Elmira Brannon, Dorothy Jones, Virginia Heath, Evelyn Whatley and Jeanette Deese and also two brothers, Arlis Granberry and Hiram Granberry.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Dr. Sandra Brannon Szabo, Huntsville, AL; a brother, Herman Granberry (Mary Ann), Ozark; sister-in-law, Flois Shelley Dunn, Dothan; a brother-in-law, Roscoe Brannon, Montgomery; numerous nieces and nephews.           


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Mark Deese, Parker Deese, Lee Granberry, Don Granberry, Phil Shelley and Tanner Shelley.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to First Light Senior Care Givers and Gentiva Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Granberry during his final days.
