A celebration of Carey’s life will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Sister Margaret Gibbs officiating. The service will honor Carey's memory and the indelible mark he left on the world. Carey will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park with military honors, a fitting tribute to a man who served his country and his community with equal fervor. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories of Carey on Monday evening, August 5, 2024, from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.

George Carey Hall, known affectionately as Carey to his friends and family, left this world unexpectedly on July 29, 2024, in Greenwood, Louisiana. Born on October 12, 1960, in Dothan, Alabama, Carey’s life was a testament to the enduring power of love, humor, and dedication.

Carey, a proud graduate of Houston County High School, went on to further his education at Wallace Community College, and later received his CDL License. His sense of duty and service was evident early on when he joined the US Marine Corps in 1979. Carey carried the discipline and commitment he learned in the military throughout his life, especially during his long-standing career with AMX Trucking. For 18 years, Carey was a dedicated employee, beloved by his colleagues for his good-hearted nature and the positive words he always had for everyone.

Family was the cornerstone of Carey’s life. He is survived by his daughter, Victoria Faith Hall, his step-daughter, Danielle MacPherson, and his mother, Willa Dean (Cecil) Strickland-Condrey. His sisters, Margie (Jimmie) Miller, Wanda Chesnut, and Angie (Richard) Gibson, and his brother, Tony Johnson, will remember him as a supportive and caring sibling. The joy of his life extended to his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, with a special bond shared with his niece, Jacey Nicole Chesnut and his late nephew, Jamie Lee Fenn. Carey is preceded by his birth mother, Shirley Dimple Strickland Hall.

Those who knew Carey will remember him as the family comedian, always ready with a joke and a smile. His laughter was contagious, and his generosity knew no bounds. An avid Alabama fan, he brought the same passion to cheering for his team as he did to every aspect of his life. Carey’s love for cooking was another way he expressed his care for those around him, often preparing meals for family and friends.

A man of faith, Carey was a member of Grimes Community Church, where he found strength and community. His life was a living example of a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Carey succeeded in every sense of the word.

Carey’s interests were simple yet profound. He enjoyed watching old movies and found solace in the stories they told. Despite his talents and the laughter, he brought to others, he was a man of few words, preferring to let his actions speak on his behalf. He was selfless in his dedication to his loved ones and his work, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Serving as pallbearers, Jimmie Miller, Jeremy Miller, Robert Murray, Rob Murray, Robert Strickland, and Leon Minor.

George Carey Hall was a generous, funny, and selfless man. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and the many lives he touched with his kindness and spirit. He will be remembered not just for the joy he brought into the world, but for the quiet, steadfast way he chose to live his life, putting others before himself and making the world a better place, one act of kindness at a time.
