George Harry Garzarek, a resident of Pinckard, passed away Friday, February 19, 2021 at his home.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, Alabama with Dr. Randy G. Atkinson officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the George H. Garzarek “Memorial Fund” c/o Glover Funeral Home, P O Box 888, Dothan, AL 36302.
Mr. Garzarek was born January 13, 1932 in Jefferson County, Alabama to John and Mamie Garzarek, the last of five children. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and served during the Korean War. He met the love of his life, Evelyn Todd and they were married April 16, 1954 upon his return from the Navy. George was a devoted husband and always supportive of his five children keeping them involved in sports from an early age. He loved sports, and coaching a history of young athletes about sportsmanship, honor and character which he exemplified. He never met a stranger; and could always hear him first either whistling or singing before he entered a room. He was a Christian gentleman and he will be dearly missed.
He is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Evelyn Louise Garzarek, a daughter, Lee Watts, two sisters, Margaret and Betty Jean and two brothers, Raymond and Charles.
Survivors include four children, Ronald Garzarek (Jerri Kimbrell) of Florida, Roy Garzarek (Belinda) of Newton, Brenda Cates of Helena and Freddy Garzarek (Jill) of Dothan; fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren that called him “Daddy George”; several nieces and nephews as well.
