George Lamar Grantham
George Lamar Grantham, 74, passed away Saturday morning at home after a valiant fight with cancer. He was born in Hattiesburg, MS December 26, 1940.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of Dothan with Rev. Wes Kelley officiating and Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 on Tuesday night and one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, “In Christ Name Fund”, 1380 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.
George loved life and people and it showed in everything he did. He was successful in his career in insurance because of his warmth and integrity.
He was an avid fisherman and golfer and could build or fix anything. George loved blue grass, country, gospel music and dancing with Betty, his wife.
George was married to Betty for 22 years. They had a happy marriage and a blended family of 6 children and 15 grandchildren. He adored them all and will be missed by all.
He was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Martha Grantham.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Grantham of Dothan; daughters, Anita Grantham Pool (Darrel) of Lafayette, LA, Suzanne Burns Towry (Burton) of Brentwood, TN, Kelly Burns Reinhardt (Keith) of Kingwood, TX; sons, George Lamar Grantham (Becky) of Houston, TX, Peter Burns of Los Angeles, CA and Patrick Burns (Elizabeth) of Greensboro, NC; sisters, Marcia Huestis (James) of Hot Springs Village, AR and Sara Easterling of Petal, MS; a brother, Daniel Paul Grantham (Elaine) of Petal, MS; grandchildren, Nathan, Baillie, Brittney, Jacob and Addison Pool, Lindsay and Jacob Towry, Gabe, Will and Grace Grantham, Caroline and Katherine Reinhardt and Joshua Burns.
