George William Stafford, a resident of Dothan passed away on January 7, 2024, at his residence. He was 90.
Graveside services with U.S. Air Force Honors will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Reverend Tim Willis officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
Flowers will be accepted.
George was born to James and Bell Stafford on September 18, 1933, in Dale County. He loved his country and joined the Air Force in 1953 and retired as a Master Seargent in 1974, serving as a C-141 & C-130 flight engineer. During his military career, he received many decorations including the “Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters”, “Air Force Commendation Medals, the Vietnam Services Medal of the Republic of Vietnam, and the Medal-Philippines Presidential Unit Citation. George served in Southeast Asia, Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. After retirement, he was a flight engineer and aircraft maintenance manager with Saudi Arabian Airlines and PEMCO World Air Service. George was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and the Adult Class for 25 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James & Bell Stafford; a son, George Stafford, Jr.; his five brothers, and one sister.
He is survived by his wife Kara (White) Stafford; a son, Rusty Stafford (Crystal) of Arkansas; three daughters, Angela Clemens (Tom) of Maryland, Tammy Stafford of Oklahoma, and Sabrina Butt (Andy) of Dothan; and several grandchildren he loved dearly.
