Georgia Evans Smith, died peacefully, Thursday morning, January 26, 2017 at her residence in Dothan.
Private graveside services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2017 at Midland City Cemetery with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating and Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. A memorial mass will be said 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2017 at St. Columba Catholic Church Chapel with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Columba Catholic Church, 2700 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.
Georgia was born and raised in Midland City and moved to Dothan in the 1980’s where she resided the remainder of her life. She was retired as a school teacher from the public school system in Henry County.
Georgia was active in various organizations and maintained her lifelong delight in her love of kitty cats and puppy dogs. She will be sorely missed by her many friends and colleague’s, especially those helping provide for the care and maintenance of her feline and canine friends and companions. She was a faithful member of St. Columba Catholic Church.
Survivors include four children, David Byrd, Charlie P. Evans, Robert Byrd and Marcia Byrd; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; special caregivers, Joyce Crase and Dee Greathouse.
The family would like to thank the staff of Covenant Hospice for their loving care of Georgia.
