Georgia Sugg-Pierry, age 79 of Dothan, AL, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior on Sunday, August 27, 2017, surrounded by the love of her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 3 pm in St. Columba Catholic Church Chapel with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating. Family will receive friends at the church from 2-3 pm on Thursday. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing.


Georgia was born April 14, 1938 in Vrbovsko, Croatia to the late Nikloa Senfner and Berta Hibler Senfner. She was the youngest of six children growing up in Vrbovsko and later living in Opatija. Georgia overcame many hardships of W.W.II Yugoslavia. After entering the workforce in Germany as a young adult, she then married and began her family upon coming to the States in 1968. She then lived the rest of her life in Dothan, AL.


Georgia attended G.C. Wallace Community College obtaining her A.A. degree and LPN license. She worked at the South East Alabama Medical Center on 5 East for 17 years, retiring in 2000. She was also an avid artist having created many paintings, sculptures, mosaics and the like. She was a singer as well, being a choir member in the Croatian Opera "Ero S Onoga Svijeta and singing in Opatija with Vice Vukov. She also performed in Columbus, Georgia's "Fiddler on the Roof" as the matchmaker. She was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church. Her true love and passion in life was her family. She loved her daughters dearly and adored her grandchildren having devoted her life to them. Life became even sweeter at the birth of her great-grandchild where she spent many recent days strolling her in the beautiful outdoors. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nikola and Berta Senfner, brothers, Marjan and Ivan Senfner, and a sister, Maria Jez, all of Croatia.


Survivors include a brother, George (Nada) Senfner of Kitchener, Ontario and a sister Greta Kordis of Croatia; her children, Bettina (Bob) Rickrode and Tatiana (Cliff) Townsend both of Dothan; grandchildren, Leighanna Rickrode, Tatiana Marie Townsend, James Rickrode (Savannah), Clifton, David, Savannah, Elaina and John Townsend all of Dothan; great-grandchild, Kinsley Rickrode; and many beloved nieces and nephews of Canada and Croatia as well.
