Mr. Gerald James Gilmore of Geneva, Alabama passed away July 01, 2022 at the age of 72.
A Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 07, 2022 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Earles officiating and Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Geneva Senior Center in his memory.
Gerald was born in Enterprise, AL on April 05, 1950, to the late James Adron and Lillie Bell Hatcher Gilmore. Gerald was a 1968 graduate of Geneva High School where he lettered in high school basketball and truly enjoyed playing sports. In his spare time, he was an avid and quite talented water skier. Following high school, he attended Troy University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. In 1971, he started with the USDA department in produce/peanut grading. In 1973, he started at Farley Nuclear Plant where he worked for thirteen years as a supervisor of instrument warehouse. He was employed by Showell/Purdue farms as a plant supervisor for one year prior to being diagnosed with MS in 1986, at the age of 36.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Catherine Smith Gilmore of Hartford, AL.
Gerald is survived by four children, Kim Tanner (Ashley) of Coffee Springs, AL, David Gilmore (Jessica) of Chancellor, AL, Rachelle Sosa (Jesse) of Mansfield, TX, Britt Thames (Jamie) of Macon, GA; two brothers, Jerry Gilmore of Grassy Creek, NC, Lowell Gilmore (Karen) of Eufaula, AL; one sister, Janet Tinsley (Jack) of Samson, AL; 13 grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren and a host of special nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. William A. Gammill and Geoff Gunn, P.A. for their continued care and devotion; Enterprise Health and Rehab for their excellent care, compassion and dedication for the past 9 years and DaySpring Hospice for your tender love and care shown to our loved one.
